Paro Anand has dedicated the past 35 years of her life to creating and promoting literature for the youth.
Starting out as a writer, she felt that there was a gap between what was available and what children actually wanted and needed. There were also huge gaps in the very availability of books in rural and semi-urban areas. To combat this issue, she has published 25 books including novels, short story collections, plays and a activity based teachers guide.
She believes that while re-told folk tales and mythology are indeed important, there exists a crying need to tell stories about situations that children are facing, reading about and being exposed to through the media and social media.
She realized the enormous potential of stories as a safe space for discussing difficult issues as well as a way of developing creativity and critical thinking.
She developed Literature in Action, a program through which she has interacted with over 3 lakh children with a special emphasis on working with unreached children and those in difficult circumstances. Inspired by these interactions, she has written books that have set new standards in content for youth that have met critical and popular acclaim.
